Like the new format! I suggest you send out an email "burst" message to everyone that is on our email list so that they can see the new website. Include a link to our web page and a suggestion that they forward it on to other family, friends and lake property owners!

I agree. Had a little trouble posting, but then again I'm over 60 and had to get younger help. Thanks for work on web site and organizing.

I heard that there is a possibility that there won't be the annual fireworks display this year. Can you put out a request for donations on the website? I'm sure the cost is enormous and by the number of boats and people enjoying the show it seems like we could greatly help with the costs so we can still enjoy the show.
Thanks

Fireworks! We too heard there is a possibility there won't be the annual firework display in 2009. I can't rember exactly how many years there has been a fireworks display on Horsehead Lake but I'm sure many will agree every year they get better. I support gjtullis' request (from October 2008) can't we put out a request for donations on the website & in the newsletter like we do for the fish fund? I heard the 2008 Devenbaugh Fireworks Display cost over $6,000 and they received a few donations (totaling about $1,200 including $150 from the Horsehead Lake Association) not nearly enough to cover the cost. As I stated this was "hear say" so if my figures are wrong I apologize, but regardless we all enjoy the display and invite family and friends to view them with us so we should all take some responsibility in raising funds to make sure the Devenbaughs' costs are paid. I also believe it is a safety issue.....if we don't have the annual Devenbaugh Fireworks Display ....then individuals are more apt to buy their own fireworks and don't have the expertise that the Devenbaughs do to set them off safely........ It's obvious from the number of boats and people on the lake enjoying the display it would be very disappointing if what has become a tradition on Horsehead Lake was no more. If the Devenbaughs are willing to put on the display....the least we can do is support them financial so Horeshead, John Brown & Litte Brown property owners, family & friends can continue to look forward to this annual event. What can we do? Again.....Many thanks to the Devenbaughs.

We also heard there may not be the Devenbaugh's fireworks again this year. Would HHL Association be willing to add a section on the website or in the newsletter for donations or general information like the fish fund? Our family would be willing to head the fund and get the money to the Devenbaugh's if they would be willing to put the show on again.

I just moved to Horsehead Lake and am dissappointed in how many dogs are just let out to roam...they don't go to the bathroom on their own property...but on everyone elses..are there any rules/laws regulating this problem?

Hi, I'm interested in finding out more about Horsehead Lake. This may not be the forum, but it is the only one I could find, until someone tells me differently. What are the dimensions of the lake: acres, depth, water quality, bottom eg. sand, gravel, muck...Can you swim in the lake? Is it a good fishing lake? What kind of fish is caught here? Is it safe to eat the fish caught in the lake? I see there are some restocking programs, and it appears that the community is interested in stocking the lake.
thanks, Joe

Hello, Joe! The lake is 453 acres. it is connected to two other smaller, no wake lakes (Little John Brown and Big John Brown) Yes, there is fishing on the lake. Fish are eaten daily! Walleye, pike, largemouth, smallmouth, croppies, bluegill, sunfish and perch are all caught. There is a fish stocking program by both the DNR and the Lake Fish Fund. Last fall there were 2600 7" to 9" walleye fingerlings planted.
The lake has shallow areas that boater need to be aware of and also has some 60 to 80 feet holes! Lake maps are available. Swimming is good and there are jet skis, skiers, kayakers, tubers as well as fishermen and pontoon boaters. Lake bottom varies. I have a hard packed sand near my shore but it gets mucky the further out I go.
We are have been treating the lake for the past three years to combat the invasion of Eurasian milfoil. There is a small assessment on property owners to cover the expense of this.
Hope this helps!
